From the press release

Broken Bird marks the directorial debut of Joanne Mitchell, who has been honing her craft as a horror storyteller for nearly 15 years. Broken Bird is a feature film adaptation of her and Tracey Sheal's award-winning 2018 short film Sybil, written by Dominic Brunt.

Sybil Chamberlain is a quiet, creative soul. Her hobbies are taxidermy and poetry. She works with the dead in a funeral parlor. She likes dead people. They understand her.

At just ten years old, she suffered a traumatic experience in a tragic accident that took away the family she loved so much. Now she is painfully lonely and finds a void that she is trying to fill. But poetry and a vivid imagination offer her a way out of the harsh reality of a lonely life.

Sybil loses touch with reality and reason, and her “dark desires” become more and more insatiable. Her fascination with the dead takes a dark and strange turn. And in a terrifying climax of gothic proportions, she finds her own kind of happiness and contentment with the people who keep her company – dead people.

Broken Bird Stars Rebecca Calder (I could destroy you, Hilma), James Fleet (Four weddings and a funeral),Jay Taylor (Wolf Manor, Evie) and Sacharissa Claxton (Avenue 5, Sandman). Screenplay of the film: Dominic Brunt, Joanne Mitchell, Tracey Sheals. Director: Joanne Mitchell.

Broken Bird had its world premiere in the UK last week at Pigeon Shrine FrightFest 2024. The film is set to hit UK cinemas on August 30th. There is no word yet on a US release. Hopefully it will get a US release too, because this film looks like a gripping and wonderfully dark movie.
