Armed suspect injured after brief standoff and police shooting in North Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) – A suspect was shot and injured in a north Portland neighborhood after a curfew was imposed amid a standoff Saturday night, PPB reported.

Just before 5:30 p.m., police responded to reports of an armed man walking down the street in the 7600 block of North Portsmouth Avenue. When officers arrived, the man was “still armed” and ducked behind a car, according to police.

After an accident on I-84 on Friday morning, three people had to be hospitalized and one driver was arrested.

The neighborhood was advised to remain safe while tactical police units and a negotiation team arrived in the area.

Sometime after 6:30 p.m., PPB announced that the suspect was in custody and being transported to the hospital following a “police-involved shooting.” Police did not release any information about the man's injuries.

The curfew for the neighborhood has been lifted, but the surrounding streets remain closed to car and pedestrian traffic.
