According to the sheriff's office, an Arizona man was arrested after threatening to kill Trump

WASHINGTON, Aug 23 (Reuters) – An Arizona man wanted after threatening to kill former President Donald Trump on social media was arrested on Thursday, the Cochise County Sheriff's Office said.

Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, was in Cochise County on Thursday as he visited the U.S.-Mexico border as part of his campaign.

The man, Ronald Lee Syvrud, 66, had multiple arrest warrants out of Wisconsin, the sheriff's office said. He was taken into custody Thursday afternoon, authorities said Friday.

Syvrud was then booked into the Cochise County Jail on an outstanding warrant from Graham County in Arizona for his arrest for “failing to register as a sex offender and two counts of threatening in court in this case,” the sheriff's office added. He remained in custody pending a court decision.

“I'm not that surprised (by the threat) and the reason is because I want to do things that are very bad for the bad guys,” Trump said Thursday when asked about the threat against him in Arizona.

It was the latest in a series of threats against candidates ahead of the November 5 parliamentary elections.

In early August, a Virginia man was charged with threatening Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump's Democratic rival, and in December, a New Hampshire man was arrested for threatening to kill Republican presidential candidates.

In July, Trump was shot in the ear in an assassination attempt, injuring two other people and killing one man.

The US secret service became the focus of much media interest after the shooting, and the agency's director subsequently resigned.

Despite these and new threats, Trump said Thursday he had “great respect” for the Secret Service and “the work they do,” adding that they had made mistakes and would learn from them.
