'I am innocent': Why prime accused Sanjay Roy agreed to a lie detector test and broke down in court | Kolkata News

NEW DELHI: A city court on Friday granted the CBI permission to conduct lie detector tests on seven people, including the prime suspect Sandra Royin connection with the RG Kar rape and murder case.

Why did Sanjay Roy agree to the lie detector test?
Sanjay Roy reportedly became emotional when the judge asked him why he agreed to the lie detector test. “I have not committed any crime. I am being framed. Maybe this test will prove that,” Roy said.
Before Roy gave his consent, his lawyer Kavita Sarkar explained the lie detector test to him. When the judge asked him directly about it, Roy replied that he agreed because he was innocent.
Earlier “confession” by Roy
Both members of the state Special Investigation Team (SIT) and later the CBI (after it took over the case) claimed that Roy had previously “confessed” to the crime and even helped reconstruct details.
Investigators pointed to several pieces of evidence that suggested Roy's involvement, including injuries to his body, video surveillance footage and seized items.
Sources confirmed that the lie detector test on Roy will be conducted at the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in New Town.

According to the CBI’s psychoanalytic profile, Sanjay Roy, the volunteer traffic cop and only suspect who was killed in the R.G. Kar Medical College This case involves a rape and murder case described as a “sexual pervert” with “animalistic tendencies.”
The profile revealed that Roy was addicted to disturbing and violent pornography, as evidenced by the content found on his mobile phone. “The content on his phone was highly disturbing and violent. This raises serious concerns about his mental state as viewing such material is highly abnormal,” a police official told PTI.
Lie detector test on the main defendant and six other persons
Lie detector tests have begun for the main defendant and six other people involved rape and murder of a doctor in training at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Calcutta.
Officials said the main suspect, Sanjay Roy, will have to undergo a lie detector test in jail, while the other six people – including former school principal Sandip Ghosh, four doctors who were present on the night of the incident and a volunteer – will be tested at the agency's Kolkata office.
Sanjay Roy cries for sleep after several rounds of interrogation
Sanjay Roy, the main accused in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder case, has asked for sleep after being remanded in judicial custody on Friday. Roy, who is currently lodged in the 'VIP section' of the Presidency Correctional Home, is being kept separate from prominent inmates such as former state ministers Partha Chatterjee and Jyotipriya Mullick.
Roy claims he is exhausted from two weeks of intense interrogation by the Calcutta police and the CBI, with questioning often lasting late into the night in the first few days.
