The West Bengal Motion Picture Artists' Forum held a protest rally at Tollygunge demanding justice for the victims of the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder incident and urging the Kolkata administration to take responsibility.

“16 days have passed and in this time at least five more rapes have taken place. We all know what happened in Badlapur, Assam or Muzaffarnagar. I am from Kolkata and I will hold the Kolkata administration accountable. All those involved in the RG Kar incident should be punished severely. There must be a systematic change in the mentality that causes rape. Whoever wants to do politics will do it. If the administration starts saying that all people protesting on the streets are politically motivated, then it is not right… We are not here for political reasons. We are here for justice,” said actor Parambrata Chatterjee.

On Saturday, a delegation of junior doctors met with officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over the alleged sexual assault and murder of a junior doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal.

Dr Kinjal, a representative of the delegation, said they had asked the CBI for a deadline to trace the people involved in the case, but were told that it was not possible to fix a deadline.

“Our five-member delegation that met the CBI at the CGO complex yesterday did not get a satisfactory response there either. Our only demand is justice. We told the CBI that the motive behind our ongoing protest is justice and that is in your hands as you are all investigating officers. So the sooner you tell us who was involved, the better we can decide the direction of our protest. They told us to just trust them. We also asked about the deadline, the CBI said that is not possible but as soon as possible,” he said.

According to sources, the lie detector test will be conducted on Sandip Ghosh, Sanjay Roy, the main accused, along with four doctors and a volunteer.

The court has given the CBI three weeks to submit a progress report on the investigation, which is to be presented on September 17.

The doctor-educator was found dead in the seminar room of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9.
