Daniel André talks about the number of lives and deaths in “Running On Empty”

Daniel André makes his directorial debut with Running on reserve. A story about a young man, Mort, played by Keir Gilchrist, who finds he is running out of lives after taking the 97.9% accurate life count test. With other actors such as Lucy Hale, Jeff Faffigan and Francesca Eastwood, André, as screenwriter, takes us through the opposite of a romantic comedy.

The summary

Mortimer (Keir Gilchrist, “It's a pretty funny story”) is a strange but clever young man living a lukewarm life in California's San Fernando Valley until he receives life-changing news. Determined to make the most of each day, Mort embarks on a spirited quest to find meaning in life and discovers the girl of his dreams.

We usually hear about artists moving from acting to behind the camera, but with Daniel André it was the opposite. Born in Mexico, the artist grew up in New Jersey and began performing in theater at a young age. As a teenager, he also appeared on television and in films. As an adult, he earned a degree in Film & Digital Arts. André is now also a music producer, writer and director. After Running on reserve As his first feature film, he is currently working on The last willa biopic about the life of the African-American author Iceberg Slim. Based on the memoirs Healed: The story of two imaginary boys by Lol Tolhurst.

Earlier this week I spoke with Daniel André about Running on reserve. André explained why he filmed in my neighborhood, Sherman Oaks, California, and what he associates with the city. And also why the title of originally Death in Sherman Oakshe also talked about Mort's character and what he was looking for. Of course it was also about death and how society sees him and now himself today.
