Calcutta doctor rape and murder case live: CBI raids former principal Sandip Ghosh's residence at RG Kar Medical College; main accused Sanjay Roy cries out for sleep

“He never hesitated when the agency approached him. He was confident and not averse,” said Sandip Ghosh's lawyer. CBI officials said the purpose of the lie detector test was to check the authenticity of Ghosh's statements about the sequence of events on August 8 and 9. The body of the 31-year-old PGT, who was raped and murdered in a seminar room on the 3rd floor of the hospital, was found on the morning of August 9.

The CBI's Anti-Corruption Wing has arrived at the residence of Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The investigation into corruption allegations against Ghosh began yesterday with the filing of an FIR.

The Anti-Corruption Wing of the CBI reaches the residence of Dr. Debashish Som, a Forensic Medicine and Toxicology Fellow at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Akhtar Ali, a former deputy superintendent of the hospital, filed a complaint regarding corruption and irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, mentioning the name of Dr. Debashish Som.

Sanjay Roy, the prime suspect in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder case, was remanded in custody on Friday and has since sought permission to get some sleep. Roy is being kept in the “VIP section” of the Presidency Correctional Home, but separate from well-known inmates such as former ministers Partha Chatterjee and Jyotipriya Mullick.

He claims to be exhausted after two weeks of intense interrogation by the Calcutta Police and the CBI, with the interrogations often lasting late into the night in the initial days. However, CID and Calcutta Police officials claim that Roy was given ample time to rest between interrogations.

Kolkata Police has handed over 53 seized items and digital evidence, including telephone pole data, to the CBI, locating Sanjay Roy at the scene of the rape and murder in the seminar hall of RG Kar Hospital. These items are crucial to the ongoing investigation and forensic reports are expected soon.

The key evidence includes 40 pieces of evidence collected by the state forensic team on August 9. The incident was documented in the presence of local witnesses, including doctors. In addition, nine incriminating items were seized, including Roy's clothes, bicycle, helmet and sandals from the day of the crime.

The data extraction from Roy's cloned phone was monitored by experts in court and CCTV footage from hospital cameras also incriminate him. Fingerprints and footprints were collected from the crime scene along with a medical report documenting injuries on Roy's body. His blood sample was taken to compare with samples found at the crime scene. Stay tuned to TOI for the latest updates:
