Boxing star Floyd Mayweather Jr. faced John Gotti III in an exhibition match on Saturday night in Mexico City. The fight went exactly as many expected and like the first meeting, with the boxing star simply being the better fighter. Fortunately, the fight did not end in a brawl as was the case when they met in June 2023. Although Mayweather clearly dominated proceedings, no winner was announced as the fight was an exhibition match.

Mayweather was careful not to give Gotti any opportunities to work effectively, instead relying heavily on his jab followed by straight right hands to control proceedings. As the rounds ticked by, Gotti was visibly frustrated with Mayweather's usual economical and effective approach to the “sweet science.”

Since the fight was an exhibition match with eight two-minute rounds, it was unlikely there would be a significant result. This has been a standard approach to exhibition matches since the COVID-19 pandemic began, with Mayweather only really showing his best game in fights with Japanese kickboxers where a result was announced at the end.

As with his exhibition fights with the likes of Logan Paul, Mayweather was content to go the distance in the fight despite being clearly the better of the two men in the ring. At the end of the eighth round, no winner was declared.

Mayweather and Gotti hugged after the fight, a stark contrast to the brawl that followed their first fight.

During his illustrious professional career, Mayweather had many notable fights with Mexican superstars. Mayweather was grateful to the audience for this exhibition fight on enemy soil.

“Mexico City,” Mayweather said. “Thanks for coming.”
