Man killed in early morning shooting in Mesa

The shooting happened near downtown Mesa, north of the intersection of Main Street and Mesa Drive. Here are the latest details.

MESA, Arizona – Mesa police say a man died after a shooting near downtown Mesa early Saturday morning.

The department told 12News that someone called 911 and that a man suffered an epileptic seizure at a home in the 100 block of N Lesueur around 4:45 a.m. Saturday.

When officers arrived at the house and began treating the man, they realized he had been shot. They immediately began treating the wound and attempted to save the man's life, but he lost consciousness and died.

Police are not releasing the victim's name at this time as they are still working to notify his family.

Officers soon began searching for the shooter and, after speaking to witnesses, learned that an argument had broken out between the victim and another man that ended in gunshots.

Witnesses gave officers a detailed description of the suspect and were able to find him near the crime scene.

The man was arrested. His identity could not be established.

The shooting is still under investigation.
