Beaumont officers shoot man with chainsaw

The shooting occurred Saturday night after officers were called to a home in the 1800 block of Harriot Street for a disturbance.

BEAUMONT, Texas – Beaumont police are investigating after officers shot and killed a man on the city's south side Saturday night who police say attacked them with a chainsaw.

The shooting occurred Saturday night after officers were called to a home in the 1800 block of Harriot Street at 8:20 p.m., according to a Beaumont police news release.

While officers were inside the home speaking with a person involved in the disturbance, a man “armed with a chainsaw” approached them from behind a house and walked toward them, police said.

The officers fired their weapons at the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene by Beaumont EMS paramedics.

According to police, none of the officers were injured in the incident.

The shooting is being investigated by the Texas Rangers, as well as investigators from the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office, detectives from the Beaumont Police Department and investigators from the Internal Affairs Division.

“The Beaumont Police Department remains committed to transparency and accountability and will ensure that a thorough investigation is conducted,” the press release said.

This is an evolving story.
