Garmin Fenix 8: Video leak causes excitement ahead of launch

The official launch date of the Garmin Fenix 8 is just a few days away, but the leaks keep coming. Now, a video has surfaced on a Russian Instagram account where we see the device in action for the first time. This leak shows the watch and walks the viewer through some of its screens. To their surprise, one person even managed to purchase the device from a retailer!

Let's start with the video, which confirms several rumors and offers new insights into the Fenix 8 series. We expect Garmin to release three sizes. This includes a 43mm model with a 1.3-inch display, a 47mm version with a 1.4-inch screen, and a larger 51mm version that also has a 1.4-inch display (though this is not certain). Notably, the 43mm and 47mm models feature thinner bezels, while the 51mm version appears to have a slightly thicker bezel design.

An important innovation of the Fenix 8 is the integration of a microphone and speaker. This feature enables voice commands for various functions. For example, setting timers, starting activities, saving locations and adjusting settings. When paired with a smartphone, users can answer calls and send messages directly from their wrist.

The leak also reveals two new modes for water sports enthusiasts: scuba diving and mask diving. This expansion of water features suggests that Garmin is targeting a wider range of outdoor activities with the Fenix 8.

It's now also on YouTube.

Other notable improvements include the integration of Garmin's new Elevate Gen 5 heart rate sensor and an improved vibration motor. All three size variants of the Fenix 8 will feature AMOLED displays. The exception is the Fenix 8X Solar, which will also offer a memory-in-pixel (MIP) option.

While the leak provides essential information, some details remain under wraps. Those who have managed to get their hands on the device report that they cannot reveal much about the new features as the watch cannot yet sync with Garmin Connect.

Pricing information for the European market has also leaked, with the 43mm Fenix 8 starting at €999, the 47mm Fenix 8 starting at €1,099, and the 51mm Fenix 8 starting at €1,199. A new Fenix E model (47mm) is listed for €799, while the Enduro 3 (51mm) matches the top-of-the-range Fenix 8 at €1,199.

In an unexpected turn of events, one lucky person on Reddit reportedly managed to purchase a 47mm AMOLED Sapphire Fenix 8 from Bass Pro. This lends credibility to the leak and suggests that the official release could be imminent. But we already knew that.

It won't be long before these details are confirmed, with the official announcement and unveiling expected on Tuesday, August 27. Until then, this video leak offers the most comprehensive look yet at what could be Garmin's most advanced multisport smartwatch.
