Telegram CEO reportedly arrested at French airport – POLITICO

Pavel Durov, the billionaire founder and CEO of messaging app Telegram, was arrested at Le Bourget airport outside Paris on Saturday evening, French media reported.

Durov was arrested on a French warrant as he disembarked from his private jet after a flight from Azerbaijan, TF1 TV and BFM TV reported, citing people familiar with the case. The warrant is said to relate to Telegram-related crimes. There was no confirmation from French authorities.

The arrest was reportedly carried out by investigators from the National Anti-Fraud Office, which is under the French customs authority. Durov, who has been criticized for allegedly inadequate moderation of the encrypted Telegram app, is reportedly accused of refusing to cooperate with authorities.
