Addressing Lakhpati Didi Sammelan in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, the Prime Minister said, “Along with empowering mothers, sisters and daughters, their safety is also the priority of the country. I have repeatedly raised this issue from the Red Fort. Today, no matter which state of the country I am in, I understand the pain and anger of my sisters and daughters.”

“I will once again tell every political party in the country and every state government that crimes against women are an unpardonable sin. Those who are guilty should not be spared,” ANI quoted Prime Minister Modi as saying.

“Those who help him in any form should not be spared. Be it in a hospital, a school, the government or the police system, at whatever level negligence occurs, everyone should be held accountable. The message should be loud and clear from top to bottom. This sin is unforgivable. Governments will always come and go, but protecting the life and dignity of women is a great responsibility of all of us, both as a society and as a government,” Modi added.

The Prime Minister's remarks come amid ongoing nationwide protests against the brutal rape and murder of a 31-year-old junior doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata.

The paramedic's body, with severe signs of injuries, was found in the seminar room of the hospital's pulmonary department on the morning of August 9.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating the case on the orders of the Calcutta High Court. The main accused, Sanjoy Roy, has been remanded in judicial custody till September 6.
