An injury to Mateo Kovacic was the only bad news from Manchester City's victory over Ipswich Town

Yesterday, Manchester City claimed their second win of the Premier League season with a 4-1 victory over Ipswich Town. A hat-trick from Erling Haaland helped Pep Guardiola's side to an impressive victory. However, there was also some bad news for the champions from yesterday's match. Mateo Kovacic suffered a hip injury and had to be substituted after 50 minutes. That was the only downside to City's first home game of the season.

The Croatian international sustained the injury following a hard foul by Liam Delap shortly after half-time. Delap's foul was not malicious, it was more of an unfortunate incident. But Mateo Kovacic had to be replaced by John Stones after he wanted to continue playing despite his injury.

Pep Guardiola gave a brief update on Kovacic's injury during his post-match press conference. He told the media: “I haven't spoken to the doctors. I think it was a blow. Liam Delap, we know from here, is very aggressive in this regard. We have six or seven days until the next game and we will see if he can recover.

It was a blow to see Mateo Kovacic come off through injury. He has started the season in top form and was named man of the match in City's opening win over Chelsea. He played well at the Etihad yesterday before picking up an injury. But given Pep Guardiola's assessment of the injury, there is hope that the Croatia international can start next weekend against West Ham.
