JFK expert reveals astonishing assassination theory as Trump promises to release secret documents if elected

CIA officers helped Lee Harvey Oswald assassinate John F. Kennedy, an expert said when asked to predict the secrets of still-secret documents.

Trump announced at a rally in Arizona on Friday that he would release the secret files. At the rally, JFK's nephew Robert F. Kennedy Jr. reiterated his resignation from the Democratic Party and supported the former president.

For years, many have questioned the official account of the events of November 22, 1963 in Dallas – and in particular the Warren Commission’s finding that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone.

More than 3,000 documents related to the assassination still contain redactions, and experts speculate that the withheld information would reveal that Oswald was an accessory to the murder.

Renowned JFK expert Jefferson Morley expressed his suspicion to the Washington Post that Kennedy's opponents at the CIA may have collaborated with Oswald.

“Is there a smoking gun? You know, this is not a smoking gun,” Morley said.

“This is about the law that requires all JFK government records to be made publicly available by October 2017. That deadline has already passed by seven years.”

According to Morley, the declassified documents showed that some CIA officials did not believe Oswald had acted alone and that a counterintelligence official tried to “sit out” the Warren Commission's investigation by withholding information about Oswald.

Trump promised to set up an attempted assassination commission that would also investigate the shooting of the former president on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania.

“This is a tribute to Bobby. I will establish a new independent Presidential Commission on Assassination Attempts, whose mission will be to declassify all remaining documents related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy,” Trump said.

As president, Trump promised to release the Kennedy files, but announced in April 2018 that the public would have to wait several more years because the potential harm to national security, law enforcement or foreign affairs was “of such severity that it outweighs the public interest in immediate disclosure.”

In the same month, the National Archives released about 19,000 records.

“I actually did. I put out a lot of it, as you know, but then when it came to this whole thing, I was attacked by some people who work for me who are great people that you would respect. They asked me not to do it,” Trump said on an episode of the All In podcast.

However, some experts are not convinced that Trump will keep his promise, as the President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act of 1992 required the files to be released by 2017.

Most presidents have used their discretion to keep files classified for national security reasons.

'[Trump] “You had the opportunity to do it. You said you would do it and you didn't do it,” Gerald Posner, author of the 1993 book “Case Closed” about the Kennedy assassination, told the Washington Post.

“Now, with the support of RFK Jr., maybe this is some kind of quid pro quo, and maybe this time he'll actually do it.”

Posner said the remaining documents could show that the CIA knew about Oswald before the assassination but is convinced he acted alone.
