IDF announces name of fallen Marine David Moshe Ben Shitrit

The Israel Defense Forces announced on Sunday that a marine on a Dvora ship, Staff Sergeant David Moshe Ben Shitrit, was killed in an incident involving a Hezbollah drone and an Iron Dome interceptor, which was fired to shoot down the drone near the ship.

The ship and other naval vessels perform various tasks to ensure the security of the North.

Located about three to four kilometers from the coast, near the Israeli-Lebanese border, the Dvora protected the coast from physical invasions, helped identify Hezbollah threats, and shot down some threats.

Drone did not hit ship

So far, the Israeli military is investigating whether the interceptor was following one or more drones and accidentally hit the ship, or whether the interceptor hit a Hezbollah drone and shrapnel from the downed drone hit the ship.

The Israeli military said it was clear that the drone itself did not hit the Dvora ship before it was shot down.

Ben Shitrit was then evacuated from the Dvora to a smaller speedboat to take him to the coast, where he was loaded into an ambulance and taken to Nahariya Medical Center.

After resuscitation attempts failed, he was pronounced dead.

Another Marine was slightly injured and another soldier was moderately injured.

The ship returned to the naval port of Haifa, where the damaged small part of the ship is currently being repaired.

The ship Dvora is expected to return to sea within 24-48 hours.
