NFL legend Shannon Sharpe has declared a winner in the feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, which reached a boiling point this summer.

In conversation with WWE star John Cena about his Club Shay Shay In a podcast, Sharpe said Lamar was the clear winner thanks to the popularity of “Not Like Us.” The former tight end said the single will be a staple at sporting events in the future.

Celebrities and fans alike felt compelled to take sides as Lamar and Drake traded verbal barbs. The general discord between the two rappers has been going on for years, but it got especially personal when they took turns releasing their own diss tracks months ago.

Many will agree with Sharpe that “Not Like Us” was a hit. Aside from the single's scathing content, the song became a commercial hit and broke into the sports world.

“'Not Like Us' works on every level,” said Lanier “DJ Severe” Stewart, the music director for the Los Angeles Dodgers, in an interview with Andscape's Keith Murphy. “Sports is very competitive. People like to talk trash to the opposing side. Everyone will take to heart the refrain 'they don't like us, they don't like us.' It's a very direct song. It's basically telling the other team, 'You're not on my level.'”

The intention behind “Not Like Us” will likely be forgotten over time, but for athletes and teams the song will certainly remain a rallying cry for a long time to come.
