Chesney's band releases new album in Boston, “Super Bowl” by No Shoes Nation

Kenny Chesney's band makes its debut. And like many other Chesney traditions, it happened in Massachusetts.

The seasoned veteran band, which spends the summer opening for the country superstar, discovered their own sound during soundchecks and backstage jam sessions. From those moments and with Chesney's encouragement, the six members – Rosie & The Revival – released their own album this weekend.

Kenny Chesney and the band performed three sold-out shows at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Soundchecks + Tape Decks features 11 tracks, a mix of covers and originals. It was recorded in Nashville between her own commitments and Chesney's tour.

The project was an evolution that grew out of the unique chemistry between the band members: Wyatt Beard, Nick Buda, Jon Conley, Kenny Greenberg, Harmoni Kelley and Danny Rader.

“We knew we had something special, onstage and offstage,” Beard said as the band members spoke exclusively with MassLive backstage before the Chesney show Friday night at Gillette Stadium. “There's just something unique going on with this band.”

The band's current lineup has been in place since 2022, with guitarist Radar and drummer Buda joining Chesney band veterans Beard (keyboards), Kelley (bass), Conley (guitar and fiddle), and Greenberg (guitar).

The band regularly played cover songs during soundchecks, including the AC/DC hit “Whole Lotta Rosie,” which Kenny incorporated into his shows for years. The band continued to play cover songs and eventually had several that they liked.

“Kenny [Chesney] said, 'You guys should make a record,'” Kelley said. “It kind of evolved from that soundcheck, cover song vibe. He gave us the space to have fun. He's really good at fostering that creative, fun vibe.”

The band didn't want to make an album of covers. “Writing was the logical next step,” Buda said. “Everything was so band-oriented, which is great. And we still like each other.”

The first track from the album, “Just Getting Started,” is playing on No Shoes Radio, channel 57 on Sirius XM. The entire album is available on Spotify and other streaming services.

Part of Chesney's support of the project was that he wanted the band to announce and release their album at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, the final stop on the tour.

“What better time to do this than this weekend, No Shoes Nation’s Super Bowl?” Buda said.
