Vance blames Harris' refusal to “do her job” as the main cause of the immigration problem

Senator JD Vance (R-OH) argued that the root causes of illegal immigration in the United States are Vice President Kamala Harris's refusal to fulfill her role as “border guard.”

The vice presidential candidate was asked on NBC's show: Meet the press about former President Donald Trump's plan to combat immigration, whereupon Vance said that the fundamental problem with the issue was that the United States had 25 million illegal immigrants in the country. This remark led Host Kristen Welker claims that the Department of Homeland Security puts the number of illegal immigrants at around eight million, while Vance argues that the department is underestimating the number and that millions have entered the country illegally since Harris became border agent.

When Welker pointed out that Harris had been tasked with tackling the “root causes of migration,” Vance replied that those causes were due to the vice president's decision “not to do her job.”

Vance went on to say that if the U.S. wants to solve its immigration problem, it must “stop the bleeding” by undoing everything Harris did “virtually on day one.” Steps the U.S. must take to prevent illegal immigration from getting worse include reinstating deportations, deciding not to grant asylum to anyone who asks for it, and not “mass parole.”

“This policy is the reason for the immigration crisis that we have. I think we should focus on solving the problem,” Vance said. “Before we even solve the problem, we have to prevent it from getting worse.”

Trump's vice presidential candidate was asked if the former president would separate families in the fight against illegal immigration. Vance responded that he believes some families are currently being separated and that the focus of deportation is on “violent criminals” in the US. He also argued that there are children living with drug cartel members who are not blood related and that these children should be reunited with their families.

On the topic of election integrity, Vance stressed that legal ballots must be counted in this election, while illegal ballots will be excluded from the final count. When asked if the 2024 election will be free and fair, Vance said he believes it will be and that he feels “very good” about where the Trump campaign currently stands in the 2024 race.

Earlier this week, Trump visited the southern border and cited more than a dozen cases in which children and women were sexually abused or killed by illegal immigrants. The former president was accompanied by the families of two women who were allegedly raped and murdered by illegal immigrants.
