MGK reveals that his father was put on trial for the murder of his own father at the age of 9

Entertainment gossip and news from the Newsweek staff network

MGK – formerly known as Machine Gun Kelly – talks about healing. In an interview at Bunnie XO's Stupid blonde In his podcast, the rapper turned rock star told a story about his father, who stood by his mother after her death when he was only 9 years old.

MGK, 34, said his father and grandmother were on trial for murder.

“I was always told that her father dropped the gun and his head was blown off,” MGK said. “And this all happened in my father's room when he was nine years old. He and my grandmother were charged with murder. They were both acquitted.”

The process continued to affect MGK's father years later, and MGK recalled how certain noises and sounds would trigger his father. MGK noted that these triggers often led to tension between the two.

“I just remember being so mad at him as a kid because if I scared him or he heard a loud bang or a loud noise, he would freak out, like, really freak out,” MGK said. “And I'd be like, 'You're supposed to be a man, dude, why are you acting like that?' And I just hated him. But then you sit there and think about a kid who was on trial for murdering his father when he was nine years old.”

Although he later came to understand his father, MGK believed he inherited parts of his father's trauma. This later led to MGK developing a tough personality. But for now, he said, he is unlearning projected behaviors and mentalities and embracing his sensitivity.

“I think I portrayed myself as someone who has the endurance to endure all of these things that come with fame and criticism and hate. Because I fought back against all of these traumas by becoming what I always wanted my father to be, which is to be tough, to shake it all off and just fight whoever comes at you,” he said. “I'm in the process of fixing myself right now, and I don't have the energy to be the image that I was.”
