A man is said to have killed a woman in her home and exchanged gunfire with police when they arrived.

“You never know what happens behind closed doors. It's really sad,” said Jamie, who lives near the crime scene.

New exclusive video obtained by Channel 9 shows the moment police arrive on the scene. In the footage, police vehicles block part of the road as officers speed down the street.

A second video shows the police response from a different angle. Two police officers wearing bulletproof vests and carrying weapons can be seen making their way to the crime scene.

“We were at our community pool and were heading home. When our neighbor called, he said there was police activity in our yard and guns were being drawn,” Jamie said.

The shooting occurred on Nottel Drive in the Hanover Lakes community of Saint Cloud.

“Our officers entered the front door and attempted to make contact with the residents inside, and they were shot at,” said Saint Cloud Police Chief Douglas Goerke.

Bullet holes were visible across the street after the shooting. Investigators say they used a drone and a cell phone to communicate with the suspect. “When the drone was placed in the house, it was also shot at,” Police Chief Goerke said. “After several hours of phone conversation, they were able to get him to come out and surrender peacefully.”

The suspect was identified as 48-year-old Jose Manuel Otero Fontanez, who was arrested and charged with premeditated murder.

As the investigation progresses, neighbors are worried about their community. “It's sad, especially here because our neighborhood is brand new. It's really sad that this is happening so quickly,” said one local resident who wished to remain anonymous.
