New Bedford family dispute ends in murder

NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) – A Puerto Rican man is suspected of murder after stabbing another man to death in New Bedford on Saturday.

According to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office, New Bedford police responded to 68 South Street in the early afternoon of August 24. When they arrived, they found 23-year-old Omil Padilla-Corsino suffering from life-threatening stab wounds.

He was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Massachusetts State Police investigators assigned to the District Attorney's Office identified 32-year-old Juan Padilla-Santana as a suspect. He was taken into custody and charged with murder.

Prosecutors said Padilla-Santana was a relative of the victim and that the stabbing was the result of a dispute among family members at the home at 68 South Street.

Padilla-Santana is scheduled to be arraigned in New Bedford District Court on Monday.

This is the fourth murder this month in New Bedford.

First, 44-year-old Aaron Britto of New Bedford was shot and killed on Earle Street in the early hours of August 4. One person was arrested in connection with this incident.

On August 17, 26-year-old Nicholas Miller of Bridgewater was shot and killed on Acushnet Avenue.

On August 20, 58-year-old Stephen Oswald of New Bedford was allegedly killed by 31-year-old Nina Busnengo, whose last known address is in Mattapoisett.
