Shooting at the corner of 47th Street and Clarke; Milwaukee man charged, 2 injured

A Milwaukee man is suspected of shooting and wounding two people in the north of the city in June.

Prosecutors charged 19-year-old Darqureous Word with two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment of public safety. The shooting occurred on June 26 near the corner of 47th Street and Clarke.

According to a criminal complaint, police found five bullet casings at the scene. The victims, aged 18 and 19, were taken to hospital with non-fatal injuries.

One of the victims said the shooting happened during a drug deal, the complaint states. He said he briefly “blacked out” but drove himself to the hospital when he realized he had been shot.

This victim also identified Word as the shooter based on a photo lineup and told investigators, “It's definitely him, it's the eyes, the nose, the mouth. I've known the guy for years.”

According to the complaint, investigators also identified Word as a suspect through his Facebook page. Prosecutors said police looked at that profile during another investigation and obtained a phone number. That phone number was also linked to Word in another investigation.

Word made his first court appearance on August 16; his bail was set at $25,000.
