ESPN's Adam Schefter was one of the first to share the news on Sunday via Twitter/X.

White signed with the Dolphins last offseason to replace Tua Tagovailoa after making some impressive starts with the New York Jets in 2022.

According to Spotrac, White's release will free up $3.5 million for Miami and leave $1.71 million in dead cap space.

White was solid in the preseason, as he completed 20 of 43 passes for 179 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. In the final game of the preseason, White completed 5 of 9 passes for 37 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. However, compared to Thompson, he led Miami in passing in two of three games, throwing three touchdowns and just one interception.

Thompson capped off his season opener with 19 of 27 passes for 190 yards, two touchdowns and an interception against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Dolphins selected Thompson in the seventh round with the number 247 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. The 27-year-old comes from Kansas State.

White was selected in the fifth round of the 2018 draft by the Dallas Cowboys and signed to the Jets' practice squad in 2019. He briefly became a fan and locker room favorite during the 2021-22 season as he brought a breath of fresh air to the Jets and the fan base.

White stepped in for the then-injured Zach Wilson in 2021, made his first career start and led the Jets to a stunning victory over the Bengals (34-31). The 29-year-old had his five minutes of fame with the Jets, completing 62.6 percent of his passes with nine touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

White has appeared in 14 games, starting seven of them, and has a record of 2-5.

Before playing primarily as a backup in the NFL, White attended South Florida and Western Kentucky. In four college seasons, he recorded 863 successful passes for 11,262 passing yards and a 62.0 percent completion rate with 74 touchdowns and 31 interceptions.

White also won C-USA Newcomer of the Year during his freshman year at Western Kentucky and was named to the All-C-USA second team during his final collegiate season. The Floridian native will now look for another team – the fourth of his young career.
