Penn State enters the 2024 season with a lot of changes, especially on offense, which could be one reason why the scoring isn't more uneven early on despite the lack of talent.

Sure, quarterback Drew Allar is back and there is great hope that he can continue to develop into an elite talent at the position. But another change could really help: hiring a new offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki.

Kotelnicki is expected to reshape the Nittany Lions’ offense. So far, he believes The team has done a good job adapting to his changes. Enough to make up the early points difference?

“I'm happy,” Kotelnicki said. “And I've said before that it's just important to me that our guys get better every day, and that's obvious. We're definitely a better football team from the first practice I attended this spring to now. And every one of those practices we've improved.”

“They're never going to be perfect. I think it's natural for us as coaches to be critical and never be satisfied. I think that's why we sit in these chairs. So I don't know if we'll ever leave a game or a practice and think, 'My goodness, that was perfect.' But I'm satisfied because we correct the mistakes we make. Everyone is coachable and ready to grow.”

On the other hand, West Virginia is on the rise after a surprising turnaround in 2023. The Mountaineers won nine games and helped take the pressure off coach Neal Brown significant.

Can they build on that and take the next step? A win over Penn State would certainly be a big step forward.

And given the early scoring, Las Vegas doesn't think it's completely impossible, especially in a home game.

Penn State and West Virginia will begin broadcasting on FOX at 12:00 p.m. ET on Saturday.
