FujiSan does the “rice” job – The Sunflower

A honey matcha milk tea, a California roll, a honey taro tea and a tiger roll from FujiSan Handcrafted Sushi.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of fast food restaurants in the Rhatigan Student Center is a new restaurant with cuisine not found anywhere else on campus: FujiSan Handcrafted Sushi.

They mainly offer sushi and poke bowls, but for people who don't like sushi, they also have gyoza, bao and boba tea and lemonade in many different flavors.

If you're anything like me, you're constantly on the lookout for places where you can easily and conveniently satisfy your cravings for sushi and boba. As good as these dishes are, sometimes the trip just isn't worth it, so it's nice to only have to walk three minutes to satisfy your appetite.

I tried two different types of sushi – the Tiger Roll and the California Roll. The Tiger Roll consisted of crab and shrimp with avocado and Cajun seasoning.

Even though I'm not a huge shrimp fan, it was delicious. It didn't taste too fishy and the avocado tasted fresh. It contrasted nicely with the sweet spiciness of the Cajun seasoning.

The California roll with cucumber, crab, cream cheese and avocado was absolutely refreshing. The cucumber was nice and crunchy and the roll was much better than the California rolls I buy at Dillons.

I also tried three different flavors of boba tea: mango green tea, honey matcha milk tea, and honey taro milk tea.

The mango green tea tasted a little too sweet, but if you are a fan of extremely sweet drinks, then this drink is perfect for you.

While I wasn't sure about the mango green tea, the milk teas were overall very tasty.

The honey in the honey taro milk tea mixes very well with the milk tea and balances the sour note with the sweetness.

The matcha and taro flavors weren't as overpowering as some boba shops' teas. And even though I'm more of a popping boba fan, I really enjoyed the boba itself; it was perfectly chewy and sweet.

Since FujiSan is located in the Rhatigan Student Center, it can get pretty loud, but I noticed that it's a bit quieter than the area closer to Freddy's.

Although FujiSan is a small place, the hospitality of the staff is something special. They are usually friendly and happy to help their customers find the types of sushi available.

However, one thing to keep in mind is the price. The sushi costs on average about $9 for 6 – 10 pieces, depending on the variety, while the boba costs $7. These are average prices for these items compared to other stores, but they can add up quickly. But for the convenience and the quality, I find the price is worth it.

Overall, I highly recommend FujiSan to boba and sushi lovers. I can't wait to try the rest of the menu because the few dishes I've had are very promising.

FujiSan is open Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
