Pittsburgh Steelers lose OL due to foot injury

PITTSBURGH – Injuries continue to plague the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line this preseason, as tackle Dylan Cook is now expected to miss several weeks with a foot injury, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Cook was seen walking around the team's locker room in boots during the week, but it's unknown when he actually sustained the injury. Now he'll have to spend the regular season on the bench, bringing another question to the Steelers' offensive line lineup.

Cook joined the team last summer and made the 53-man roster. The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers tackle was considered an up-and-coming young swing tackle. He was considered ready to make the roster this season and was likely pushed to the last spot by the recent injury to Nate Herbig.

With Cook out, the Steelers now have just two offensive tackles on their expected roster. Rookie Troy Fautanu remains out with an MCL sprain and it is uncertain when he will return to the lineup. Initially, he was expected to be back by Week 1, but that timeline is uncertain with the preseason ending and Fautanu still not on the field.

The Steelers are currently missing three linemen heading into the offseason. Herbig was recently placed on the injured list with a shoulder injury, Fautanu is out with an MCL sprain, and now Cook will miss some time with his foot injury.

Without Cook and Fautanu, second-year lineman Spencer Anderson will fill another important role for Pittsburgh. He worked primarily as a guard during the offseason, but will now be used as a backup center behind rookie Zach Frazier and could also play as a swing tackle until Cook or Fautanu return.

Devery Hamilton and Anderson Hardy are also on the Steelers' 90-man roster. Pittsburgh's starters remain Dan Moore Jr. and Broderick Jones.
