Cam Newton's controversial comments on marriage spark viral discussion

Cam Newton discussed his feelings about marriage during a conversation with Dr. Cheyenne Bryant on his Funky Friday podcast that went viral on social media, where he revealed that he has eight children with three different women, but isn't opposed to having more. “A lot of people see my situation and think I'm not high functioning,” he told Bryant. From there, he explained that his “desire to get married” was less than his “fear of divorce,” which is what makes him take his time.

Bryant disagreed, accusing him of being “very selectively active.” She argued, “You don't take your time, you're very action-oriented. You don't take your time. You have eight children with three different women. You create, procreate and reproduce. That's not wasting time, you're very selectively active. You proactively choose where you want to be active and what you want to take your time with. You want to take your time out of fear of finding a woman, but you will… and I say this with all respect and love… you will selfishly create broken families.”

“Not every child can have daddy in the house,” Bryant continued. “Some children, if not all, will end up with a deficit when daddy isn't there. These are selfish acts at the expense of fear. When do you feel the fear and do it anyway? It's inferior behavior to say, 'I'm going to build these houses and put children and these beautiful women in them, but I'm not going to make a home for them.'”
