One woman dead, another missing in drowning accident in Flaming Gorge

DAGGETT COUNTY, Wyoming – A 60-year-old woman died in a drowning accident at Flaming Gorge Reservoir this weekend and a 44-year-old woman is still missing. The women are a mother and daughter and their names have not been released.

According to the Daggett County Sheriff's Office, a 911 call was received by Sweetwater County Emergency Operations Center at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, regarding a possible drowning at Swim Beach at Flaming Gorge Reservoir in Daggett County.

The call was routed to the local dispatch center in Vernal, which relayed the information to the Daggett County Sheriff's Office, Flaming Gorge Ambulance and Green River Fire Department. Castle Rock Ambulance assisted in the rescue effort, as did Life Flight and AirMed.

Upon arrival, Daggett County Sheriff's officers found an adult male performing CPR on an adult female (60-year-old). Also on scene were two eyewitnesses and the adult daughter of the (60-year-old) female who received CPR. Officers were informed by the adult male, witnesses, and daughter on scene that there was another adult female (44-year-old) who had not resurfaced and was still missing.

The adult female (60 years old), who received CPR upon arrival, was later pronounced dead. The missing woman, an adult (44 years old) daughter of the deceased woman, is still missing. Search teams worked late into the night and returned Sunday morning to continue the search.

The Daggett County Sheriff's Office wishes to extend its deepest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the deceased during this time of grief.

The Daggett County Sheriff's Office and Utah State Parks and Recreation would like to remind all persons recreational on Utah lakes to always wear a flotation device.
