At least three people were stabbed on Sunday on the opening day of the Notting Hill Carnival in London. According to London police, one of the accused is still in critical condition.

The London Metropolitan Police Service announced on X that it was aware of three stabbings, in one of which a 32-year-old woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A 29-year-old and a 24-year-old man were also stabbed, although the condition of the former was not life-threatening. At the time of the post, the police were still awaiting the condition of the 24-year-old.

This year the celebrations will take place on August 25th and 26th.

The history of the carnival dates back to 1958, when human rights activist Claudia Jones from Trinidad and Tobago began organizing a gathering to unite the community following a series of racist attacks on black people in the Notting Hill district.

Started in 1964 by a few Trinidadian steel bands, it has grown into a huge annual street festival with colorful floats, thousands of calypso dancers in spectacular feather costumes, nearly 20 steel bands and more than two dozen sound systems.
