Bengaluru police arrest stepfather in connection with murder of two school-age sisters

Bengaluru: In a shocking turn of events, Bengaluru Police have arrested Mohan, the stepfather of Srushti (14) and Soniya (16), in connection with their murders at their house in Amruthahalli in northeast Bengaluru. The sisters were found dead on Saturday evening when their mother Anita was at work.

Mohan had gone missing since Saturday afternoon and his phone was switched off, making him the prime suspect. The investigation, led by Sajeeth VJ, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast), involved three police teams who worked tirelessly to trace him. Mohan was finally arrested at Yeshwantpur railway station around 5.30 pm on Sunday when he was about to board a train to his hometown.

A senior police officer monitoring the case confirmed that the arrest had been completed and Mohan would be produced before the court on Monday. “He tried to flee but our team managed to track him down and arrest him before he could escape,” the officer said.

Mohan appeared traumatized at the time of his arrest, which limited initial questioning, but police plan to seek a 10-day remand warrant to thoroughly investigate the circumstances of the killings.

Anita, the girls' mother, told reporters on Sunday that Mohan had become increasingly suspicious and controlling of late and often prevented the girls from interacting with others. Although it is too early to draw any final conclusions, police will take Anita's statements into account when questioning Mohan.

The tragic incident occurred on Saturday afternoon around 3.30 pm and was reported to the police about four hours later. The family had moved to Amruthahalli from another part of Bengaluru two years ago.

Anita, originally from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, had been living with Mohan for nine years after separating from her first husband. Mohan, who hails from Dehradun, Uttarakhand, is now at the centre of a case that has shocked the local community.

As the investigation continues, the police are determined to uncover the full truth behind the murders and ensure justice for Srushti and Soniya.
