Minister Weeks on the shooting incident

“Last night was a despicable and cowardly act of violence against our police officers,” said Security Minister Michael Weeks.

Minister Weeks said: “We are grateful that no one was injured in this dangerous incident. This is a threat to law and order and we must all do our part to bring those responsible to justice.”

“There is no place for this type of criminal behaviour in our society and we will not tolerate attacks on those who work to keep our communities safe.

“I urge anyone with information about this incident to come forward and assist authorities by speaking to police or contacting Crimestoppers at 800-8477. Together we can ensure justice is served.”

In an earlier statement, police said: “Shortly after 00:00 on Saturday 24 August 2024, police responded to an incident near Khyber Pass, Warwick.

“As officers approached the junction with Quarry Lane, they observed two men riding a motorcycle south along the Khyber Pass when the passenger fired a firearm at the officers.

“The officers began a pursuit, which eventually resulted in shots being fired. The suspects managed to escape.

“Witnesses are asked to contact Detective Chief Inspector Derricka Burns on 2471062 or 7170921.”
