Don Jr. rages against Trump’s guilty verdict: “Such nonsense”

Republicans are angry with the Manhattan jury that found former President Donald Trump guilty on all counts in his hush money trial on Thursday.

Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records to improperly influence the 2016 presidential election. He was accused of covering up $130,000 in hush money payments to then-attorney Michael Cohen to Stormy Daniels, whose story about having sex with Trump threatened to jeopardize his campaign.

Trump's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., was one of the first to respond on social media.

“Such bullshit,” said Don Jr. On Wednesday, he shared a video with his father from the Manhattan courthouse in which he joked about writing mean tweets.

“Guilty on all counts,” Don Jr. added. “The Democrats have spent years trying to turn America into a third world shithole. November 5th is our last chance to save it.”

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who served as Trump's lawyer, also condemned the verdict and sharply criticized the city he ruled for eight years. “This city has been politically corrupt for most of the last 150 years,” he said. “You knew from day one that Trump would be convicted.”

Republicans at the highest and lowest levels of the party condemned the conviction as election interference or an attempt to prevent Trump from running.

Throughout the trial, numerous people traveled to New York to show their solidarity with the twice-impeached and quadruple-charged former president. Everyone from backbenchers in the House of Representatives to governors and attorneys general showed up at the courthouse.

Many Republicans did so under the guise of circumventing the news blackout imposed on Mr Trump by Judge Juan Merchan.

House Speaker Mike Johnson blamed the Biden administration, even though the case was being prosecuted by New York County District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

“Weaponizing our justice system is a hallmark of the Biden administration, and today's decision is further proof that Democrats will stop at nothing to silence dissidents and destroy their political opponents,” he said.

Trump, for his part, said on Truth Social that his fate would indeed be decided at the ballot box.

“VICTORY ON NOVEMBER 5TH. SAVE AMERICA!!!”

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia then posted a picture of an upside-down flag, a symbol of “Stop the Steal” after the 2020 presidential election.

“Joe Biden's campaign team organized a rally outside the courthouse in New York City to support a possible conviction of President Trump,” she posted on X. “This case was rigged from the start and we all knew it. This is not an indictment, it is a prosecution. We must put an end to the instrumentalization of government in America. This is what happens in third world countries!”

The chairman of the Republican National Committee, Michael Whatley, also criticized the process.

“Today's ruling, handed down by a partisan and biased judge, is an indictment of the Democrats' campaign to use the justice system as a weapon to attack President Trump,” he said.

“The real verdict will be on November 5, when Americans elect a president they believe will lower prices, secure the southern border, restore America's leadership in the world and make America great again.”

In response to the conviction, Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz posted a link to campaign donations on X.

“This verdict is the corrupt result of a corrupt process, a corrupt judge and a corrupt prosecutor,” he said. “We will stand with President Trump now more than ever to save the country.”

Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina, who is considered a possible vice presidential candidate for Trump, released a video criticizing the ruling.

“This is not only ridiculous,” he said. “This actually undermines Americans' faith in the justice system. Unbelievable, absolutely not credible.”
