Van crashes into private home in Upper Thomson, petrol spills on the floor

Van crashes into a house in Upper Thomson, missing residents

On August 23 at 9:40 a.m. a delivery truck drove straight into a house in Upper Thomson.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Sin Ming Road and Jalan Minggu. The latter road leads into a private residential area.

Shin Min Daily News reported that the white van skidded on a curve and hit the curb at the corner of the intersection.

It then pierced first through a metal archway and then the fence of a semi-detached house.

The van crushed several flowerpots under its wheels and knocked over others before apparently coming to a stop just before hitting the house.

A male family member said his 96-year-old grandmother and two domestic helpers were in the house when the accident occurred.

When he heard about it, he rushed to the scene of the accident and was relieved to find that all three residents were unharmed.

Elderly woman was walking in the yard where the accident occurred

A neighbor was also on the scene when the accident happened. She said the 96-year-old woman had difficulty walking and was dependent on a walker to get around.

The elderly grandmother was apparently walking in the yard where the accident occurred, and her helpers were also hanging up the laundry there.

Fortunately, no one was in the yard when the van crashed through the fence.

The neighbor also believed that hitting the metal archway would have slowed the vehicle down enough to prevent an even worse accident.

After the accident, the van was badly damaged and gasoline was spilling on the ground. The neighbor and helpers put cardboard on the spilled oil so that the elderly lady could leave the house safely.

The family member in question then took her to another house in Ang Mo Kio for the time being.

The 42-year-old driver of the van escaped uninjured in the accident. He stated that he had come to pick up employees from the private residential area and had misjudged the distance, causing the van to skid.

Since he had to be on site to deal with the aftermath, he instead called his friends to help him with the work.

Around noon, a tow truck towed away the damaged van.

In response to MS NewsSingapore Police confirmed that they were informed of the incident at 9:40am the same day. No injuries were reported.

The driver is supporting the ongoing police investigation.
