Patriots QB Jacoby Brissett suffers right shoulder injury | The Mighty 790 KFGO

Jacoby Brissett, who spent the entire preseason fighting for the position of starting quarterback for the New England Patriots, injured his right shoulder on Sunday evening in a preseason game against the Washington Commanders.

The Patriots said Brissett's return was questionable.

Brissett was injured just over 2 1/2 minutes into the first quarter when Commanders defensive end KJ Henry came in unhindered from the left side and slammed Brissett's left shoulder into the turf on a sack.

The veteran signal-caller showed visible pain on the field after the hit, but stayed in the game and completed a short pass on the next play before ending his day with an incomplete pass one play later.

Drake Maye, selected No. 3 overall and pushing for a starting position in his first NFL season, came in for Brissett on New England's ensuing drive.

Brissett, 31, joined the Patriots this offseason after playing sporadically for Washington in 2023. He previously played in 16 games (11 starts) for the Cleveland Browns in 2022 and 11 games (five starts) for the Miami Dolphins in 2021.

Brissett played in Indianapolis from 2017 to 2020, starting 30 games for the Colts during that time. His career began with the Patriots in 2016 after being selected in the third round of that year's draft.

In 79 career games (48 starts), Brissett has thrown for 10,574 yards and 51 touchdowns, along with 23 interceptions.
