Trial against reckless driver postponed until Friday

The court hearing in the case of a reckless driver who refused to stop despite being asked to do so by police and injured an officer was adjourned until Friday on Monday morning.

The case was heard before the Kowloon City Magistrate today and the 40-year-old defendant surnamed Poon, who was still in hospital, did not appear in court for the hearing.

The court heard that police spotted a suspicious vehicle in Wong Tai Sin last Friday (23 August) and began investigating. However, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and fled the scene, dragging an officer under the sedan.

Several officers drew their weapons to stop the driver and arrested the man.

The officers also managed to seize drugs worth HK$20,000 in his limousine.

He was charged with seven crimes, including reckless driving, assault on a police officer, drug trafficking and driving without a license.

The case was adjourned until Friday
