Patriots QB Jacoby Brissett suffers right shoulder injury | National Sports

Jacoby Brissett, who spent the entire preseason battling for the New England Patriots' starting quarterback job, injured his right shoulder in a preseason game against the Washington Commanders on Sunday night. The Patriots said Brissett's return is questionable. Brissett was injured just over 2 1/2 minutes into the first quarter when Commanders defensive end KJ Henry came in unblocked from the left side and pinned Brissett's left shoulder to the turf on a sack. The veteran signal-caller was visibly in pain on the field after the hit but stayed in the game, completing a short pass on the next play before ending his day with an incomplete pass one play later. Drake Maye, the No. 3 overall pick who is pushing for a starting position in his first NFL season, came in for Brissett on New England's ensuing drive. Brissett, 31, joined the Patriots this offseason after spending 2023 with Washington. He previously appeared in 16 games (11 starts) for the Cleveland Browns in 2022 and 11 games (five starts) for the Miami Dolphins in 2021. Brissett was in Indianapolis from 2017-2020, starting 30 games for the Colts during that time. He began his career with the Patriots in 2016 after being selected in the third round of that year's draft. In 79 career games (48 starts), Brissett has thrown for 10,574 yards and 51 touchdowns, while also throwing 23 interceptions. – Field Level Media
