What is the story

West Indian all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite was the centre of attention on social media following a controversial dismissal during Max60 Caribbean 2024 Qualifier 1.

The incident occurred during a game between his team, the New York Strikers, and the Grand Cayman Jaguars in George Town.

A video capturing Brathwaite's reaction to being sent off has gone viral, showing him smashing his helmet with his bat in frustration.

Details of the controversial dismissal

The controversy arose when a short ball from Joshua Little hit Brathwaite's shoulder before being caught behind the stumps.

Although no contact with the bat was evident, the referee raised his finger in an appeal for “caught behind”.

This decision frustrated Brathwaite and led to him smashing his helmet on the way back to the pavilion.

He also threw his bat after approaching the dugout.
