Netflix's successful true crime series is being made into a film

Netflix’s successful true crime series “Worst Roommate Ever” is being made into a film.

Directed by Bridesmaids helmer Paul Feig, the Blumhouse film centers on a newly single woman who is cheated on by a “serial squatter” (via The Hollywood Reporter).

“A newly single woman finds the seemingly perfect gentleman to sublet the spare room in her dream home, only to discover that his deception goes beyond a false name and a false application,” says the film's official logline.

“She has unwittingly invited a notorious squatter into her home, and he is not going to go without a fight.”

Inspired by an article by William Brennan in New York Magazine, the 2022 series told stories about roommates with violent intentions who turned the lives of their unsuspecting victims upside down.

In May, the series was renewed for a second season, and four new episodes will be released on the streaming service on June 26.

It is believed that Blumhouse always intended to adapt Brennan's article into both a television series and a feature film, but the big screen adaptation was not greenlit until Feig joined the project.

When announcing the film, Feig expressed his excitement about working with Blumhouse CEO Jason Blum.

“Jason and I have spent years trying to find the perfect project to collaborate on, and this story is tailor-made to deliver the terror, suspense, emotion and horror comedy that he and I love to entertain audiences with,” he said in a statement.

“In other words, I couldn't be happier to have Jason as the best roommate ever for this movie.”

Blum added: “Paul is the perfect director for this because he always manages to strike a balance between the dark and the light in his work, and I'm very excited to see what he will bring to this story.”

There is no release date yet for “Worst Roommate Ever.”
