Amid the outrage over the alleged sexual assault case in Badlapur, Maharashtra Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar said on Monday that panic buttons could be installed in schools along with CCTV cameras to ensure women's safety.
On August 23, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Sexual Assaults against Minors in Badlapur filed a complaint against the school authorities for failing to comply with the provisions of Section 19 of the POCSO Act, which stipulates that any authority that comes to know of any such sexual assault against a minor is required to report it to the police authorities for further action.
The alleged sexual assault of two fourth-graders in a school in Badlapur, Maharashtra, has sparked massive outrage. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar said on Monday that panic buttons could be installed in schools, similar to CCTV cameras, to ensure the safety of the girls.
“…Just like CCTV in schools, panic buttons can also be installed… A panic button can also be installed in hostels… This is an advanced technology…” Kesarkar said at a press conference in Mumbai.
“The investigation team, led by the deputy director of Mumbai region, investigated the Badlapur incident. People from different departments were involved in the investigation. The police will decide under which sections the cases will be filed. The people accused of negligence have been identified as co-accused. They too will face consequences,” said the Maharashtra education minister.
He sharply attacked the opposition, saying: “The people who are criticising now did nothing during their rule. We are taking many measures.”
