Fellsmere City Manager Mark Mathes leaves for Water Control District job

FELLSMERE — Town Manager Mark Mathes will leave the town on Sept. 6 to become manager of the Fellsmere Water Control District. He notified the Town Council of his resignation on Aug. 15. His new job begins Sept. 9.

Mathes, 57, said the Water Control District board contacted him several months ago and asked him to take over as the district's operations manager. He has been city manager since August 2019.

“I've been working with the district for many years now,” Mathes said. “It should be an easy transition. I expect a few months of learning, but nothing too serious or out of the ordinary.”

“I was looking for another retirement plan and that ultimately led to the decision.”
