Two-vehicle crash on Highway 59 in Holt County leaves one dead

A two-vehicle collision on Highway 59, about half a mile southeast of Oregon, Missouri, left one person dead and two seriously injured early Sunday morning. The accident occurred at 3:29 a.m. when a northbound 2016 Chevrolet Malibu crossed the center line and collided head-on with a southbound 2018 Ford EcoSport.

The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu, Chelsey J. Guyer, 21, of Fillmore, Missouri, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The vehicle reportedly spun counterclockwise and left the east side of the roadway before coming to rest on its wheels. Guyer suffered serious injuries and was initially transported by the Atchison-Holt Ambulance District to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. She was later flown by LifeNet to Truman Medical Center for further treatment.

A passenger in the Chevrolet Malibu, Peyton A. Ohnemus, 18, of Oregon, Missouri, was also seriously injured in the crash. Ohnemus was wearing a seat belt and was transported to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph by the Andrew County Ambulance District.

The driver of the Ford EcoSport, Angela S. Woods, 57, of Oregon, Missouri, was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:49 a.m. by Acting Holt County Coroner Steve Portman. Woods was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Woods' body was transported by Chamberlin Funeral Home to their facility in Oregon, Missouri.

Both vehicles were declared a total loss and Double-D Towing towed the company from the scene.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Holt County Sheriff's Department and the South Holt Fire Department.
