Steuben County judge adjourns trial of man accused of murdering his sister

A Steuben County judge has agreed to delay the trial of John Marvin II, the 59-year-old accused of murdering his sister Heather Moran in Erwin last February.

The stay requested by Marvin's public defender is intended to allow for additional psychological testing to determine any undiagnosed psychological or emotional problems, but is not intended to assess his legal capacity.

The incident occurred in February when police rushed to a home in Erwin and found Moran, 60, seriously injured after an altercation with her brother.

State police allege Marvin repeatedly struck his sister in the head with a cast-iron skillet while she was eating with her 81-year-old father. Although her father tried to intervene, he fell out of his wheelchair but was unharmed. Marvin's next court date is scheduled for October.
