Aurora man sentenced to 18 years in prison for armed drug transport – Shaw Local

An Aurora man was sentenced to 18 years in prison as part of a plea agreement to a felony count of armed drug transportation in 2022, according to a press release from the Kendall County District Attorney's Office.

Alan Diaz Diaz, 22, was sentenced by Kendall County District Court Judge Jody Gleason on Aug. 6. Diaz Diaz had supplied more than 200 grams of psilocybin mushrooms to an undercover Kendall County Police Assistance Team agent in July 2022, Kendall County District Attorney Eric Weis said in the news release.

After the delivery, police stopped his vehicle and found a loaded handgun, Weis said. The gun had no serial number and was in an open backpack within reach of Diaz Diaz, he said.

Diaz Diaz admitted that he carried the gun for protection during drug deals, Weis said. He did not have a gun permit or a concealed carry license in the state of Illinois and was not allowed to legally possess the weapon, Weis said.

After serving his prison sentence, he must spend three years on probation.

“An armed drug dealer should be aware that he will face a very long prison sentence if he attempts to sell drugs while armed with an illegal weapon,” Weis said in the press release.
