BTS' Suga apologizes again to fans for drunk scooter driving incident

BTS' Suga apologized again to ARMY for his recent drunken scooter incident in a handwritten note he posted on Weverse on Sunday (August 25). According to a translation of the post, Suga, 31, said, “I would like to apologize to you once again in shame. I deeply apologize for the disappointment and pain of my misconduct to my fans and everyone who loves me.”
I made a great mistake by forgetting my responsibility to repay you with actions worthy of the love I have received.”

He continued by describing the night in question (August 6), saying he made the mistake of riding an electric scooter while drunk and apologized for the “confusion” caused by his initial, “hastily posted” apology the day after the incident. “I should have thought more carefully and been more careful, but I couldn't,” he wrote.

“It's all my fault. My carelessness is making life difficult for everyone who cares about me. I will try not to do anything wrong again and live with regrets,” he added. “Through this incident, I have greatly damaged the precious memories I created with the members and fans and put a lot of pressure on BTS's name. I am so sorry and hurt that it is hard to put into words because of the damage it does to the members and the team. I am sorry that the members who have always trusted me are having a hard time because of me. And I know how disappointed the fans who have supported and supported me must have been.”

The rapper had lost his license after he drove the electric scooter while drunk in central Seoul's Yongsan district, according to police, with a blood alcohol content above 0.08, which leads to license revocation. Suga said he did not know at the time that he was not allowed to drive the scooter while drunk, explaining that he felt comfortable driving because it was near his home. According to Suga's original statement, he fell while attempting to ride the electric scooter, which police noticed and led to a breathalyzer test.

BTS's label BigHit also released two statements on Weverse at the time, pointing out that Suga was wearing a helmet and only got about 500 meters before falling while parking the scooter.

In the new statement, Suga also asked ARMY for forgiveness for disappointing them. “I just feel sorry for the fans who have always given me too much love… I know it is difficult to heal the wounds and disappointments my fans have suffered with words, so I deeply regret it and think about it every day with a heavy heart,” he said. “Once again, I sincerely apologize to the fans who were hurt by me. We will receive criticism and censure as well as future actions. Finally, I sincerely apologize once again for causing a social uproar and disappointing many people.”

At press time, South Korean police had not yet issued an official punishment against the BTS member for the incident, but Korean media reported that he “admitted” to the alleged drunk driving during a three-hour police interrogation last week.

Suga has less than a year of his alternative, mandatory military service in South Korea left; he was deemed unfit for regular combat duty due to a shoulder injury sustained in 2020.
