Man executes family in gruesome murder-suicide in Long Island suburb

A man is said to have killed four family members and himself in an apparent murder-suicide on Long Island on Sunday.

According to a Nassau County Police press release, police responded to the Syosset home around noon after shots were fired.

Officials said four people were found dead inside the house on Wyoming Court and another person was found dead outside.

The man in front of the house had inflicted a gunshot wound on himself.

A Nassau County Police paramedic pronounced all five victims dead.

A man is accused of killing his family members and then himself in his home on Wyoming Court in Syosset. The family reportedly met to discuss selling the home after the suspected shooter's mother died.

The identities of the victims have not yet been released.

Neighbors told WABC that a mother and her son lived in the house for decades, but the 95-year-old woman died last week. Records obtained from Newsday show that Theresa Martha DeLucia lived in the house. An obituary for DeLucia states that she died on August 19.

“The mother who owned the house recently passed away. The family was there and from what I understand there may have been an argument,” said neighbor Corey Margulefsky. WABC.

The family had planned to meet with a real estate agent about selling the house, but when the agent arrived, the house was already a crime scene.

A neighbor told the outlet that the son was struggling with the thought of losing the home he had lived in his entire life.

The man behind the shooting was in his 60s, a neighborhood couple said FOX 5 NYThey said they were shocked to hear that the man had killed his family.

“I would never have thought that. He would take his whole family and siblings with him. I thought maybe he was desperate and just did this to himself. I really would never have thought that,” said the neighbor.

Other neighbors reported hearing screams coming from the house. Some claimed the man had a history of worrying seizures.

Neighbor Wendy Paisner told NBC New York that the adult son who lived in the home had mental health problems.

“I think the mother took care of him,” she said. “He really needed support, emotional support.”

The Nassau County Homicide Unit investigated at the scene.

Syosset is a census-designated place in the town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County. The area has a population of over 19,000. It is located about 32 miles east of Midtown Manhattan.
