Silverton man dies in accident near Estacada

An Estacada pastor who was riding a motorcycle died Saturday afternoon as a result of injuries sustained in a two-vehicle collision on Oregon Route 224 near Estacada, Oregon State Police said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a red Ford Focus, driven by a 55-year-old Estacada man, was traveling eastbound on the highway and attempted to make a left turn into a driveway when it collided with a westbound black Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by Richard Lee Detherage of Silverton, according to OSP.

Police arrived at the accident at 12:38 p.m. and performed life-saving measures on 71-year-old Detherage, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detherage was senior pastor of the Estacada Assembly of God.

The highway was closed for three hours while officers investigated.
