Teenager dies in horrific boating accident off New Jersey coast

A New Jersey teenager died in a horrific accident off the New Jersey coast this weekend when she was struck by a propeller while trying to board a boat, police said.

Zeina Mahafzah, 18, died around 4:30 p.m. Sunday as she tried to climb from a raft into the boat it was pulling in Sunset Park on Long Beach Island, New Jersey State Police said in a statement.

The teenager from Wayne suffered “fatal injuries” from the propeller, police said, without providing further details.

Sources initially told NBC 10 Philadelphia that the teen was dismembered while her father was steering the boat. However, the station left those details out of its current reporting and police would not confirm who witnessed the horror.

First responders said other people on the boat also witnessed the teenager's death, the outlet reported.

The police investigation is ongoing.
