Trial date set in Arizona electoral fraud case

MARICOPA COUNTY, Arizona (NBC, KYMA/KECY) – The trial date in the Arizona fraudulent electoral college case has been set for January 5, 2026.

A judge in Maricopa County Superior Court was hearing whether to dismiss charges against Republicans who signed a document falsely claiming Donald Trump won the 2020 election in Arizona, as well as other individuals accused of plotting to overturn the outcome of the presidential election.

Some defendants who live out of state appeared virtually, while several others appeared in person.

Eighteen Republicans have been charged, and at least a dozen defendants are seeking to have the charges dismissed under an Arizona law that prohibits silencing critics with baseless lawsuits.

Prosecutors, however, say the defendants have no evidence to support their allegations and have crossed the line between protected speech and fraud.

So far, two defendants, including former Trump campaign lawyer Jenna Ellis, have settled their cases, and the remaining defendants, including Rudy Giuliani and Mark Meadows, have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
