Man killed in E. State Street shooting identified

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Rockford police are asking for the public’s help following a fatal shooting Saturday night near a busy shopping district.

Chase Higgins, 27, died after being shot multiple times, according to the Winnebago County Coroner's Office.

On August 24, at approximately 11:15 p.m., officers were called to a parking lot on East State Street, west of Perryville Road, for reports that someone had been shot during a large gathering of people.

Witnesses told investigators that Higgins got into a fight with other people before the shooting.
